I first met John back in 2007 and enjoyed several moments, my favourite was sharing a hot chocolate on a February morning before a presentation of award for services to the country. 

On a personal level I found John really quite open and fastidious in both appearance and to detail regarding the operation of the day.

Anecdotally John came across as slightly irritated that his cup was not warmed before his beverage added, I guess that comes with status and a natural demand for perfection.
